Recently, I’ve been inspired by organic shapes and the colors of the California coast and the night sky.

Experiments in Surface Marking

  • Abstract b/w No. 3

    In the summer of 2023, I wanted to combine my experience as a print maker with my newfound love of clay.

  • Big Sur

    What resulted was a series of flat pieces and mini clay canvases.

  • The Road Less Traveled

    These pieces are all dark brown stoneware “painted” and “printed” with slip, engobes, watercolor glazes and underglaze pencils.

  • The Cave

    Texture is added by carving, rubbing in dried slip, and adding/carving extra shapes of clay on the surface.

  • Nyhavn

    Most of the pieces are abstract, but this particular piece is a tribute to Nyhavn in Copenhagen, Denmark.

  • Shipwreck

    This little guy is one of my favorites…made with a scrap piece of slab.

    I’m looking forward to adding more of these to this series in the future. Like a scrapbook made in clay.
